Abstract
Objective: The 3-Day bladder diary (bladder diary) is an effective, non-invasive, low-cost diagnostic method for evaluating lower urinary tract symptoms and is widely used as an initial test. In this study, we compared the results of bladder diary among patient's age groups to determine if there were differences.

Materials and Method: We retrospectively studied patients with lower urinary tract symptoms who visited the department of urology, National Police Hospital, from January 2016 to December 2019 and completed bladder diary. After collecting the patients¡¯ age and results of bladder diary through medical record survey, we divided patients into 4 groups by the patients¡¯ age: 49 years old or younger, 50¡ 59, 60¡69, 70 or older. In addition, we statistically analyzed whether there were significant differences in the bladder diary results (average voiding volume and number, repectively per day and night, ratio of night voiding volume to all day, and functional bladder volume) among groups.

Results: There were 889 patients (820 males and 69 females). The average age of the patients was 63.6¡¾10.4 years. The ratio of nighttime void, number of void in both all day and nighttime tended to increase as the age group increased. In particular, the nighttime voiding volume and ratio to all day showed rapid increase over the age of 60, and the number of voiding per day showed rapid increase over the age of 70. The number of voiding per day and functional bladder volume did not change significantly before the age of 70, but changed rapidly after. The average voiding volume per day could not be confirmed with a distinct change or tendency by age group.

Conclusion: In this study, the number of nocturia, which significantly affect the patient¡¯s quality of life, showed a gradual increase as the patient¡¯s age increased. Especially, after the age of 70, the number of voiding per day and nocturia increase rapidly due to the rapid decrease in functional bladder volume.
